Cinema and Theatres
There are a good variety of theatres and cinemas in and around Reading, including several community-based venues such as Progress Theatre and the Reading Film Theatre.
The Hexagon and South Street are both professional venues which are supported by Reading Borough Council. The Hexagon is a multi purpose venue in Reading's centre which provides rock, pop, comedy, classical music and dance as well as theatre. South Street presents performing arts from both professional and community sectors including fringe theatre, comedy, music, dance and live literature.
Reading is also home to the Progress Theatre, which is an amateur, self funding theatre group that operates and maintains its own 97 seat theatre.
Cinemas around the area include two multi-plexes: Vue Cinema located at The Oracle Riverside and Showcase Cinema which is situated to the east of Reading at Winnersh. The Regal Cinema in Henley is a popular independent showing a range of blockbusters and more quirky offerings, while Reading Film Theatre (based in the University of Reading) screens independent, world and classic films over 3 seasons each year.
