Where can I access the internet in Reading?

Most coffee shops now offer free wifi access. If you need access to a pc use Coffee Republic on the corner of Minster St/Broad St, or Reading Central Library on Kings Road.

Where are the public toilets?

Hosier Street (Reading Retail Market) or use major stores. All major department stores also have disabled toilet facilities. Urilifts are available at Town Hall Square and St Mary's Butts from about 8pm most evenings.

Where is the Citizens Advice Bureau?

On Minster Street (off Broad St / King St). Located just under the "bridge" between John Lewis and The Oracle.  NB Booking is usually required and check with CAB for opening times.

Are there supermarkets in the town centre?

Yes - there are two large branches of Sainsbury one at the west end of Friar Street and one on Broad Street (east end near M & S).  M & S also has a large food department. There is a small Morrison's on West Street.  The nearest superstore to the centre is Tesco on Napier Road (near Reading Bridge). Otherwise:

  • Morrisons, Basingstoke Road
  • Waitrose, Oxford Road, Tilehurst  or  Church Road, Caversham
  • Asda,  Lower Earley or The Meadway, Tilehurst

Where can I find a photo booth?

Reading Station (near the Railair lounge), or The Oracle (lower river entrance) 

Where can I get a Taxi?

There is a 24-hour black-cab taxi rank at the station's front entrance. Black cabs may be hailed at any location around the town. Please remember mini-cabs (or hire-cabs) should always be pre-booked. Reputable companies in Reading are adherents of the pre-book rule.  Always ensure your taxi is licensed (i.e. carries a plate on the rear to show it is licensed by one of the local authorities in greater Reading).    

How do I get to Heathrow Airport?

The quickest and most convenient way is by the RailAir coach link. Regular departures from the station approx every 20 minutes at peak, 7 days a week. 

How do I get to Gatwick Airport?

A regular train service runs between Reading and Gatwick, or you can use the RailAir coach link to Heathrow and catch a Flightlink bus from Heathrow coach station.  

Where can I get local bus information and tickets?

Reading Transport Ltd have a travel office in Broad Street Mall - located under the escalators on the ground floor.  Or call Customer Services on 0118 959 4000.  For other operators use the excellent local travel website www.reading-travelinfo.co.uk or ring Traveline on 0870 608 2 608.

Do National Express coaches come into Reading?

No - all national coach services pick up and drop off at Calcot about 6 miles west of Reading centre.  Good local bus services run from the area (near the Sainsbury Superstore / Retail Park, just off Junc 12 of the M4).

Is it easy to get to London?

Reading has one of the best connected rail stations in the country so it is easy to get to most places by rail. A fast (30 minute) service to London Paddington runs every ten minutes or so at peak times.  The last fast train to Reading is at approx 11.30pm but stopping services run well into the early hours.
