effortlessly enjoying The Turtle in Reading

Even as recently as ten years ago the variety of nightlife on offer in Reading was not all that exciting.  A few decent pubs, a couple of cinemas and The Hexagon theatre.

Fast forward to 2009 and the change is nothing short of phenomenal.

For one thing, there is a choice of fine dining in the town centre.  And these stylish restaurants have appeared, and are burgeoning, alongside the usual spread of clubs and bars you'd expect to find in a town our size.

Importantly, we've managed to attract a growing list of quality independent restaurants, family friendly venues and some great nightspots with their own unique appeal - from Zero Degrees with its on-site micro brewery, producing some surprising flavours in beer, to the relaxed and homely charms of Oakwood Social Club, to atmospheric venues like Po Na Na,  Chan Cham, Bar Iguana, and Sakura.  Outside Inside

Variety of cuisine is another hallmark of Reading dining.  There are, of course, lots of Italians - including authentic independents like Mari Y Monti, Dolce Vita and Pepe Sale - but we've also Tapas Bars, Sushi Bars, TexMex,  Thai, Chinese,
Japanese, French... and some good traditional pub food, not to mention the best selection of pies anywhere in Sweeney and Toods.

For more detailed information you'll find most of our fine restaurants listed on Top Table - and for real inspiration read our restaurant feature by Food Monthly editor Hilary Scott.

And you want more? - we've got it.  Two casinos, jazz clubs, film theatres, open air Shakespeare, Sunday band concerts, local band nights, gigs at Rivermead, and a different festival to celebrate almost every month.

Enjoy!
