Plans approved for almost 500 homes

greenparkvillagePlans detailing the development of almost 500 homes in Green Park Village were approved by the council after initially being rejected due to concerns regarding parking.

The plans for Phase 6 of the Green Park Village were initially rejected by Reading Borough Council's planning committee in March due to a shortage of parking spaces for people living in the development's affordable homes. The plans have since been accepted after an additional allowance of parking spaces was added by the developers.

As well as extra parking spaces, the amended plans that were resubmitted to the committee on April 4 also included an additional 44 homes.

Upon completion, Phase 6 will consist of 459 homes spread across seven tower blocks.

greenparkvillage 1Phase 6 has been split into 6A; the first four towers which will contain 339 units, and 6B; which will contain 120 units across the final 3 towers. The additional 44 homes included in the approved plans will be constructed in Phase 6B.

As well as the additional units and parking spaces, the council also approved the rotation of three blocks to face in a north-south direction.

The initial concerns regarding the lack of parking spaces the residents in the affordable homes were raised by Councillor Emmett McKenna.

The original plans that were rejected only included an allowance of 56 parking spaces. The latest plans submitted had increased that figure to 70, and were unanimously approved by the council's committee.

Phase 6 of the development will include 442 parking spaces in total, 361 of which are for private owners/renters, 70 for those living in affordable homes and 11 reserved for visitors.
