Reasons to be cheerful

Reading - a remarkably rewarding place to live

Picnic, Market Place

If you have never visited Reading before - or if you havent been here in many years - we think you are in for a very pleasant surprise.

For some reason people are not quite sure what to expect from the County Town of Royal Berkshire - and what they tend to expect is, to be honest, not all that good.

So when you do actually visit you are in for a very pleasant surprise. We can honestly say we've yet to meet anyone who has moved here to live, or study, or to set up a business who hasn't been completely won over.

We are not a modern town, but we do have a lot of striking modern architecture.  We are not a quaint little market town, but we do have two rivers flowing through our centre (not to mention the ruins of a medieval abbey).  No one thinks of Reading as especially cultured - but our home grown talent includes Kate Winslet, Kenneth Branagh, Ricky Gervais and Sam Mendes.  The list goes on...we're a town of opportunity, but we respect our heritage, and that creates a special place to live and do business.

So if you think you know what to expect - hold that thought - and discover Reading for yourself.     The Town Hall
